Federal Cannabis Legalization and Where we are Today

Federal Marijuana Reform Is Not a Pipe Dream with a Democratic Senate - Shepherd Express

A Legalization Milestone

As the years go on legal cannabis sales across the country have become extremely popular. This is due to individual states across the country legalizing individually under their own state governments. Now over 17 states have gone fully legal. This is apart from the 27 states that have decriminalized cannabis. This is a major step forward in the expungement of cannabis prohibition throughout the United States. It allows both patients at medical facilities and recreational users to have access to high quality lab tested products. Federal legalization across the whole of the United States has been discussed for many years, but not until recently have people started taking in more seriously.

That Legalization Revenue

With many of the prominent states going legal it is difficult to turn a blind eye to both the revenue stream for the state, and the reduction in crime and expenses on criminal justice. Federally across the United States it is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug. This means the US government has declared that cannabis has no known medical benefits and has the potential for abuse. As more and more peer reviewed studies emerge, we know that much of this is not true. Last November Gallup ran a poll stating that over 68% of the total population was in support of legalization. This is the highest level of support ever recorded. Hopefully in the near future we see that support grow even more and everyone above the age of 21 will have access to a safe location to purchase their cannabis.
