What’s going on Holyoke, MA tokers? In this article we’ll be talking about how infusions can effect the edible experience!

Why Edible Infusions Matter

Have you ever had a cannabis edible and wondered why the effects felt different or left you in an uneasy state? This could likely be the result of the type of infusion used in your edible! In many ways edibles are more diverse in their effects than their flower counterparts given the direct control confectioners have over the final product. This can include control over cannabinoid concentration, terpene level, and potency. Infusions are generally broken up into two categories, Full-Spectrum and Distillate/Isolate. These categories are unique and can have direct effects on the user experience.

Full-Spectrum

Full-Spectrum infusions are so named because they keep almost all of the original cannabinoid and terpene profiles intact from the associated plant. This allows for strain specific effects to be a part of the edible experience including the “Entourage Effect”. For this reason Full-Spectrum edibles can be highly sought after for consumers looking for a product more catered to their needs. This also means that Full-Spectrum edibles can be a little more expensive. Many Full-Spectrum edibles use cannabutter as an infusion method since cannabinoids and terpenes are fat soluble. It can also result in better tasting edibles as well.

Distillate/Isolate

Distillates and Isolates are so named because they reduce the cannabis plant’s cannabinoid profile down to one or two compounds. These concentrates lose strain specificity as terpenes and certain cannabinoids are either intentionally distilled out, or lost to the process. This means that you lose the “Entourage Effect” in place of a highly concentrated THC or CBD profile. Many edible manufacturers use these isolates as they’re generally less expensive and more abundant, however they can change the experience for many consumers. Distillates and isolates can be alcohol based which can effect the taste of the edible. The THC concentration without other cannabinoids has also been claimed by some users to cause headaches, and uneasiness.
