Holyoke Cannabis opened its doors on February 11, 2021 — founded by James Jaron, a Massachusetts entrepreneur with 25 years of building businesses that strengthen the communities they sit in. After two and a half decades running Zap Electric and Ion Lighting Distribution, James turned his focus to bringing premium recreational cannabis to the Pioneer Valley.
We chose 380 Dwight Street because we believed in the corridor before it was cool — and we still do. Our shop sits alongside a growing community of independent businesses, each playing a part in Holyoke’s revitalization.
What sets us apart is simple: we curate the menu like collectors. We carry the brands cannabis fans already love, we grow our own in-house strains when we know we can do it better, and we price every product like it’s for the neighborhood — because it is.
For more than 25 years, James has served communities across Massachusetts through business leadership and local outreach. A Holyoke-area native, he is the founder of Zap Electric and Ion Lighting Distribution, whose team installed more than 14,000 LED fixtures at UMass Amherst’s W.E.B. Du Bois Library. He also contributed extensively to the buildout of the new Holyoke Train Station, located just down the street from Holyoke Cannabis.
James brings a rare combination of technical expertise, entrepreneurial experience, and deep local roots to everything he builds. He knows how to wire a building, fly a plane, and dive underwater—and he has brought that same versatility and hands-on determination to building Holyoke Cannabis from the ground up.
When he is not working, James enjoys spending sunny days on the river with his family and staying connected to the community he has called home for most of his life.
Lisa runs day-to-day operations on the shop floor — from staff scheduling and training to inventory flow. She came to cannabis after years of high-stakes industrial purchasing at Danieli Corporation, the global metallurgical equipment manufacturer, and earlier supply-chain work at Morgardshammar and Protective Services.
That background is the reason customers consistently call our shop “streamlined” on Leafly: Lisa runs the floor with the same discipline she once brought to industrial procurement, but applied to making your visit fast, friendly, and right the first time.
Jacob hand-picks the brands and strains we carry — the reason our shelves rotate with fresh product you won’t find at every chain. He partners directly with Massachusetts cultivators across the Pioneer Valley to bring farm-to-pipe flower straight to our counter.
