Holyoke Cannabis Dispensary: This Week in Cannabis History – US House of Representatives Pass Cannabis Decriminalization Bill | 12/04/2020
This week will be focusing on a fairly recent event in cannabis history. With the major push in destigmatizing cannabis federal support grows daily. On December 4th, 2020 the U.S House of Representatives Vote on the removal of cannabis in the “Controlled Substance Act” while implementing a 5% Tax on all those who were most negatively impacted by the prohibition of cannabis and to help fund small business’s/grants. The Vote passed in the House with a total of 228 for and 164 against. A landslide victory.
If we remember our School House Rock properly, the Bill will now be sent to the Senate where it will be voted on for a 2nd time in the upper House. If the vote is not passed, it will have to be moved back down to the house of Representatives and the process starts all over again. Though the Vote is unlikely to pass in the Senate, this is the first time a Bill regarding the rescheduling and decriminalization of cannabis has ever passed in either house. Every-day we move closer and closer to federal legalization.
