What is the Entourage Effect?
When we intake cannabis products we are not only ingesting the THC and CBD, but also the numerous other chemical compounds that we discussed in our last post. These combinations of beneficial compounds working together create a unique effect depending on concentration level and method of intake. This is what we call the “Entourage Effect.”
How to select for the Entourage Effect
For many full time cannabis users this term most likely will not be new, and might even be how you are currently choosing your cannabis products. These unique combinations of cannabis compounds are said to create individualized effects depending on the strain and can differ from grow to grow. We can take CBN as an example. CBN is said to help induce sleep and help with insomnia. Many users who are looking for products specifically for sleep might want to look at other concentration levels other than just the base THC and CBD. Not to say these are not important factors as well.
The Future
Though we have made great progress in recent history on the understanding of these compounds and their physiological effects, we are still only scratching the surface. As advocacy for cannabis research grows stronger and more states start to recreationally, it will be important for users to have access to well run, peer reviewed studies.
