Different Types of Uses for Cannabis
Throughout almost all human history there have been many uses for cannabis for a variety of different applications. Usually when we think of cannabis during these days we immediately think of its intoxicating effects from recreational use. However, cannabis has many more uses a outside of recreational intake; cannabis has been used in religious practices, medical applications, industrial materials, and much more.
Religion
One of the uses for cannabis is found in certain religions and religious ceremonies; some of which have been practicing cannabis uses for ages. Certain sects of Buddhism, for example, would use it during silent meditation or while chanting. This is directly contrasted by other sects of Buddhism abstaining from cannabis all together. Another major use of cannabis in religion is one you have probably heard of either in the news or just through pop culture and is called Rastafari. The Rastafari consider cannabis to be the “Sacred Herb” and involve it in almost all practices.
Medical Applications
Over the years cannabis has been used in homeopathic medicine for a wide variety of treatments. Cannabis has been used for treatment of everything from nausea/vomiting to more serious applications like epilepsy and cancer. Due to the lack of peer-reviewed research associated on the medical applications used, many of these practices however, are still not entirely supported by some of the medical community.
Industrial Materials
One of the modern uses for cannabis is hemp! Hemp has gained notoriety for a variety of applications; one of the largest are paper products. The cannabis plant stalks are dense with fibers/cellulose and make for a stronger, more durable paper versus wood pulp paper. It is also a much more sustainable product and could be a good solution to deforestation. Cannabis hemp can also be used to make biodegradable plastics, textiles, building materials and much more!
