The Difference Between Terpenes and Cannabinoids:
If you have spent time with cannabis flower or other cannabis products you have most likely heard THC and CBD. Two of the more prolific and popular cannabinoids that make up cannabis. Now that customers have more choice about what strain or flavor, they are looking for in their cannabis product, we are also starting to hear more about Terpenes as well. By using both of these are metrics in which you gauge your products, you will have a much better understanding of what it might be like. Though what is the difference between the two?
Cannabinoids:
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that make up part of the cannabis plant. Two of the more popular examples of cannabinoids are THC and CBD. THC being the main psychoactive ingredient to cannabis. Previously we also talked about a few other cannabinoids like CBN, CBG, and Delta-8. These cannabinoids will give the cannabis product slightly different effects depending on concentrations. For example, high CBN mixed with levels of THC has been said to make the user feel drowsy. Also, it has been said that higher levels of CBG mixed with THC creates the “munchies effect”.
Terpenes:
Terpenes also make up part of the cannabis plant and might alter the effect depending on concentration as well. Terpenes make up much of what we smell in the cannabis plant and is what gives cannabis strains their distinct aromas. For example, “Limonene” which can be found in other plant too, will give a very lemon like scent, and is also said to provide an uplifting effect after intake.
Although there is a lot of information available online about these two things. There has not been enough research on either of the two subjects in order for there to be conclusive evidence. As cannabis becomes more widely accepted in the public view, we hope to see better funded peer-reviewed studies on cannabis.
