What to Do with Your Bag Seeds from Cannabis?
If you are a recreational cannabis user, you most likely have found a seed in your cannabis flower at least once. These are referred to as “bag seeds”. Even high-quality cannabis can produce small seeds if overstressed during the flowering phase. Many who find seeds throw there hands up in defeat as they have no psychoactive effect and add a significant amount of extra weight to the bud itself. Though these seeds are not always waste and depending on the condition are usable to grow!
Not all seeds that you find in your cannabis flower will be suitable for growing. Some of the time the seed might be too dry, broken, or has died of other natural causes. Cannabis flower can be the dry/cure stage for anywhere from 2-6 weeks. During this time, the structure loses a good portion of its moisture.
There are a few different indicators to look out for to see whether your seed might be growable. One of the main indicators of a growable seed will what is sometimes called “tiger stripes. The living seed will generally be a darker green color with jagged, black stripes covering the outside. It will almost look like a miniature watermelon. Another good indicator of a living seed will be the consistency of it. Try giving it a light squeeze. If the seed cracks easily, it is most likely a dead seed. If it is able to keep its form, give it a shot!
There are many ways to “start” or germinate a seed. The two most important things that seeds crave are heat and moisture. Take a paper towel and wet it. Fold your seeds between the paper towel, and seal it tight inside a bag. In time you seeds will stop cracking through the outer layer shell.
